Your site’s Directory is not only a hub of information for your site, but the place where your site’s community comes together. The Directory Module contains the tools you need to present, organize, and update this wealth of information quickly and easily.
How It Works
The Directory employs a very simple four-tiered structure that can accommodate virtually any requirement:
Your Directory contains any number of Sections that contain any number of Categories that contain any number of Listings.
Sections are the largest subgroup within the Directory, and are meant to reflect large divisions of the Directory. Categories are meant to be narrower divisions within a Section which contain Listings, which are individual people or businesses.
For example, in a Section called “Community Organizations,” potential Categories could be the name of a specific clubs, while the Listings would be members of those clubs.
In addition to containing Categories, the Sections can also be used to organize Time-Sensitive Content through use of the Post to Section Submodule within the Content Module. For more information about the Post to Section Submodule, see here.
Listings are organized in alphabetical order and can appear in more than one Category. They can be shown in one of two ways:
- Basic Listings (name, address, phone and logo only)
- Highlighted or Expanded Listings (Basic Listing plus a link to a Listing Profile Pages with additional functionality such as Ad Management and Specials)
Your Directory Module is designed to allow you to create and organize your Sections and Categories, as well as manage Listings in bulk and determine whether they appear in Basic or Expanded form, though creation and editing of individual Listings and their information is done through the Listings Module. For more information on Listings, see the Listings Module tutorial here.
